Day two

Well...today was a little better than yesterday. I did get a best time by about .7 seconds which I was happy about. I would be happier if I went a bit faster but a best time is what I was going for so I will be happy with that. I obviously didn't make it to finals...again...but Friday is my best race and I am going to focus on that. The goal is to make it back to finals. I'll start there...

As they did yesterday, my teammates blew the competition out of the water in finals. Once again, world records were broken, national anthems played and I was a proud member of the US Paralympic swim team. Hopefully on Friday I'll be down there in the pool also.

Now I have three days off until my next race and I am going to focus on just trying to relax and get the 'good feel' in the water back. Ive been missing it these past couple of days so hopefully with a 3 day break I'll be feeling great by Fri.

ANother day down. I'll be back cheering for everyone tomorrow.

GO USA!

Just wanted to wish you all the best on Friday! We're about the same age. I had cut out a magazine page of you on crutches right when you first returned from Iraq. At that time, I was seeking admission to medical school and used your picture as a sober reminder of how often I forget that things I take for granted can be gone in a blink of an eye and that while many our age have whole lives ahead of us, some, like you, have already experienced more tragedy and loss than anybody should ever receive in a lifetime. So when I read about your swimming, I was so overjoyed to learn how a whole lot of life is always still out there for us regardless of setbacks. Now in medical school, I often use your story as an encouragement to patients. You have my thoughts and prayers as you swiftly chase ever greater possibilities. Go get 'em!

Friday and enjoy your time in China. I couldn't think of a better person to represent the USA in the Olympics. GO GET THEM STOCKWELL! I see you have a shirt out now and am going to have to get one for myself and my dad. I am glad that a portion of the sales are going to the wounded warrior project. Good Luck from the Century O & P club.

Way to go Melissa! Bob & I have been keeping up with your progress toward making the Paralympic team since we heard that was your goal. Wow – you made it! Enjoy the ride! We still have a picture of you, Robyn & a few other Gym Elite gymnasts that were patients of Bob's from waaaay back. Hard to believe you guys are so grown up now. Obviously you still have that athletic, competitive spirit in your blood. You talked about your family being there ... tell your parents we said "HI!" and we'll all have to reconnect soon. In the meantime – enjoy every minute of it. What an experience! We're pulling for you!! Bob, Jeanie, Robyn Grace

Hello Melissa:) just a few words from some of your fans in North Dakota. We are sooooo proud of you and we wish you all the best on Friday. We wish that we could be there to cheer you on like we did in MN back in April. As you are swimming just know that we will be cheering from many miles away. I know that this is a great experience for you and you will make many lifetime memories & friends. You know that Ken was in China for the Special Olymipics in 2007 & he made friends that he still emails with at least once a week. He will talk about this trip forever. So GOOD LUCK to YOU on Friday, & no matter what happens you will always be a winner in our eyes. Nicole says "Hi" and she misses you. Hugs & Kisses from all of us XOXO. Love, Aunt Connie, Uncle Ken & Cousin Nicole
